Building in Shelton

Shelton gathers around the head of Oakland Bay, a working timber town whose hills look out over Hammersley Inlet and, on clear days, toward the Olympics. Its housing stock is a quiet record of the town's history, from early craftsman cottages near the old downtown to postwar homes and newer residences on the surrounding forested land.

Building well here means designing for steady winter rain and mild summers: deep overhangs, carefully detailed envelopes, and materials that weather gracefully rather than merely endure.
